Fifth Grade Art

In fifth grade art the focus is on American Art.  During the first semester we explore Native American Art using a variety of media.  In the second semester we learn about American artists of the 19th and 20th Centuries.
AUGUST:  Students will be creating their pinwheels for the Pinwheels for Peace project.
SEPTEMBER-NOVEMBER:  Students will begin preliminary work for a semester full of Native American art.  We will learn about the art & culture of a variety of Nations from the Haida in Alaska & Canada all the way down to the Dine and the Anasazi of the Southwest.
September we will learn about line, shape, pattern, and analogous colors.
October we will begin work on "Raven Masks", Ceremonial Masks of the Pacific Northwest.
Late November students will explore fiber arts and learn how to make Dreamcatchers and Worry Dolls.
NAStandards for all projects: 1-6.
DECEMBER:  Students will be finishing up any unfinished projects.  Those who finish by December 8th & 9th will have the opportunity to make a Christmas ornament.
